Ottilie W. Roederstein (1859-1937) fut la femme peintre la plus importante de sa génération dans le monde germanophone. Déterminée, elle a trouvé sa place dans un milieu artistique dominé par les hommes et a défié les conventions sociales de son époque. Sur plusieurs décennies, Roederstein a créé une oeuvre riche et variée qui reflète de nombreuses tendances stylistiques du modernisme.
